Teenagers and Depression: Adolescent Depression
Teenagers and depression is a difficult topic. It’s also an important one. The Center for Disease Control released a national study finding that 61% of students as young as the 8th grade reported feeling sad and hopeless. 36% of the
students reported they had nothing in the future to look forward to and worse 34 % had serious thoughts of ending their young lives.
Despite the very real threat the subject of teenagers and depression might never be brought up when it really needs to be addressed. Families don’t like to talk about depression or suicide with their children feeling this will protect them when nothing can be further from the truth.
Children who experience depression might not understand what they are experiencing. They might not be able to articulate the depth or their emotional pain either.
